FCBD 2016 Dark Horse Serenity Hellboy Aliens has been added to your cart.
Dark Horse provides another 3-in-1 special for FCBD 2016. Serenity is first. River tells a story to Emma, Zoe and Wash's daughter. It's presented like an all ages tale (the book isn't) but you'd have to be more than a bit jaded to not respond to the emotional tug you'll find at the end. The art by Stephen Byrne is mostly done in an animated style. It's clear and effective, but not my cup of tea. I'd give it 7 Grahams.
Next is a Mignola/Corben Hellboy short, 'The Mirror'. It's a tale from Hellboy's youth, first in the field w/ the BPRD, eager to see if Dad's stories were true. They are, in classic Hellboy fashion. It's a winner (but they all are when these two work together.)I give it 9 Grahams.
Last is a prologue to the new Aliens series by Brian Wood and Tristan Jones. It's tame for an Aliens book, but Dark Horse has to know that some of these are going to end up in the hands of readers younger than the intended audience. I'm a fan of Wood's writing, and the detail in the artwork by Jones is great-he's got the best xenomorph since Killian Plunkett-but there's almost no way to tell what's going on once 'the event' happens that this story is hung on. Hopefully, these were just try out pages for the book, and the series will have more coherent visual storytelling. I'd give it 5 Grahams as a comic, but 10 Grahams for drawings of aliens.
